Shades of Darkness by Alexandra Ivy

Chaaya endured centuries as a sacrifice, protecting her people from an evil that could destabilize all magic. At long last, her servitude is over—and she’s raring to have some fun. The baddest ghost-girl in Las Vegas has a talent for causing mayhem. And for getting under the skin of her solid, silent bodyguard, the vampire Basq . . .
Basq doesn’t let anyone close. He’s learned the costs of companionship. But reckless, disrespectful Chaaya, with her fiery temper and her fierce loneliness, isn’t like anyone else. Staying near her isn’t just a duty, it’s a hunger. When a prisoner of Chaaya’s last battle escapes, possibly seeking Chaaya’s nemesis, Basq isn’t letting her chase through a hellscape mirror London alone. But when the choice is between abandoning everything that’s kept them alive, or each other, survival will take not only desire—but trust . .

Net Galley Book review:

This is book 16 of the series. A stand alone book but is best when read with others book in series. Another fun story set in this world that features Vampires, Demons, Fae, Mermaids, Weres, Imps , Djinn and even an adorable Gargoyle Levet lives. It featires not so human Chaaya and Basq a vampire as well as a large cast of characters from previous books. It’s an involved story with lots of twist and turns but light on romance but if you are a fan of this series pick it up and enjoy the ride…. Lisa

No one is more surprised than Asher, one of the oldest vampires on Earth, that he’s attracted to vamp hunter Jo Radcliffe. She’s smart, a talented slayer, and she’s gorgeous. Something about her pulls at him, like no one ever has before. For a man, whose name strikes fear in everyone—this is something new and intriguing. And quite possibly deadly, if she discovers his secret.

Jo has two things in common with the handsome Asher—they are both slayers and someone is messing with them in a very-much-trying-to-kill-them way. She’s not so happy about joining forces with a dude she doesn’t know. But he’s sexy as hell and really good at his job as one of the Forgotten Brotherhood, whose business it is to execute misbehaving paranormals.

She knows she’s bait in a larger plot to harm Asher and the Brotherhood. And there is nothing he won’t do, no line he won’t cross, to keep her safe—which may be the weakness that destroys them both.

Net Galley Book :

My favorite in this series, so far. We had Asher and Jo, enemies in every sense, by way of circumstance are forced to work together. He a vampire of the Forgotten Brotherhood, she a vampire hunter soon come to rely on each other as someone or something is out to destroy one or both of them.Another great story in this series….. Book Review : Desolation Road

New Release !

Take the ride of your life with the Torpedo Ink motorcycle club in this thrilling romance novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.
Torpedo Ink is Aleksei “Absinthe” Solokov’s whole life. They’re his brothers, his family—his everything. But that doesn’t stop him from wanting something that only belongs to him. That’s why the tough biker has spent the last six weeks at the library, reading every book he can get his hands on and watching the prim and proper librarian who makes his blood rush.
For the past six weeks, Scarlet Foley has been fantasizing about the handsome, tattooed man whose eyes follow her every move. She senses he’s dangerous. She wants him to get close enough to touch. She wishes she could let him know the real woman, not the one she pretends to be. But Scarlet has a plan to carry out, and she can’t afford any distractions.
Absinthe is well aware that Scarlet is hiding something. She’s a puzzle he intends to solve, piece by intoxicating piece….

From the Book:

Absinthe opened the door to the restaurant for her, scanning the room quickly for potential trouble before allowing her to do the same thing while he turned back toward the street and gave that another quick once-over. Certain no one was paying attention to either of them, he closed the door and followed his librarian’s amazing ass. She was in a black skirt with small white polka dots scattered over it. The material clung to her curves. He appreciated that particular skirt very much.

Absinthe held the back of her chair for her, ignoring the waiter who looked as if he might conk him on the head and abscond with the girl. She looked regal as she took the seat, smiling up at Absinthe, nearly taking his breath away. Whatever it was that she had affected him like some kind of aphrodisiac. Her small teeth. That mouth with her full, pouty lips that were made for a man’s dirtiest fantasies. He hadn’t had them until she came along. Not like this. Mostly he’d had nightmares. The erotic, very graphic dreams were a welcome change.

“Are you a wine drinker?” Absinthe didn’t know the first thing about wine. He could make her any kind of drink she wanted, or talk beer, but wine eluded him. If she loved wine, he was going to be taking a crash course. It wouldn’t take him long to catch up.

She shook her head. “I actually don’t drink very much. Once in a while, if it’s really hot out, I’ll have an ice-cold beer. But other than that, it’s a very occasional drink and usually I go for something girly like a cosmopolitan.”

“I don’t drink wine,” Absinthe admitted. “Like you I’m not a big drinker, but mostly that stems from wanting to be alert all the time.”

“You don’t put your feet up, relax and have tons to drink?” There was the merest hint of amusement in her voice. Mostly she was serious.

He loved the look on her face when she gave him her full attention. He focused completely on her once he was certain the few couples already eating or waiting to be served weren’t interested in them in the least.

“No, that wouldn’t work for me. I do like to put my feet up though,” he admitted. “I’m going to be very up-front with you.” It was confession time. If he didn’t say it straight up, she’d find out anyway. “I’m not good at this. I never know what to say and I come off stilted and awkward, but I don’t want to be that way with you.”

Her green eyes were hard to stay still under. She seemed to see right through his skull into his mind where chaos reigned—thanks to her.

“I’m not so great at this either,” she declared. “I guess we’re going to have to learn. I’m very competitive and I have a fast learning curve. Very fast. Wait.” She frowned at him. “You weren’t reading a help book on dating, were you?”

“Do they have those in the library?”

Her lashes swept down and then back up. A small smile teased the curve of her mouth, causing his heart to accelerate. He found himself staring. Shit. He was going to lose before he got started because he couldn’t stop staring at her.

She laughed. “I’m not telling you. I’ll read them and turn into a scintillating conversationalist in minutes, leaving you in the dust.”

He instantly learned three things. There were multiple self-help books on dating, she read extremely fast, and she really was competitive. He flashed a small grin, looking at her with hawk-like eyes, giving her the predator look just for a moment. Just to see the shiver that crept down her spine.

“I’ll have to be there first thing in the morning before your shift.”

“You know my shifts?” The smile faded, and she sounded uneasy.

He shrugged. “How was I going to ask you out? I went multiple times without seeing you, so clearly you had a shift and only came into the library during those times. I kept having to trade work with friends, and drive here from the coast, so, I found out when you worked. I came as often as I could, and just waited until we’d established a very tentative woman can charm the socks right off a shy man any day of the week.”

“Is that what we established?”

Her laughter got him every time. He found himself actually relaxing. The waiter hovered, and both guiltily studied the menu. She ordered a pasta dish and he ordered a steak. Fresh-baked bread was put on the table, and he suddenly realized he was very hungry.

From Net Galley :

This is the newest book in this series. If you are a fan of this series than you will be fa miler with the club and the character . This book is all Absinthe the human lie detective of the club from the pass books. **Only 99 cents!**
I’m a Native Texan, born and raised close to the heart of the great Lone Star state. I am 31 years old, and I was born in January of 89′ and got to grow up during a great time. I honestly don’t consider myself a Millennial, and really hate that title. Also I’m a part-time working secretary and a full-time mother/housewife, as well as a Lupus Warrior.
Having Lupus, means a life of inside living, and the sun is known as my arch-nemesis, my personal kryptonite. I wanted to leave a legacy behind, something my kids could one day look back on and say, yeah my mom did that.
Thanks to the encouragement of friends and family, I found a passion in writing paranormal romance books. Anything fantasy usually suits my novels and I tend to be able to reach anyone in multiple genres. Most of my story ideas come to me in the most unexpected time and places, such as my dreams. They will plague me non-stop until I get my rear up and write it out.
I like to explore new types of characters such as Sandmen and Boogeymen for example. I really wanted to give them their own world, such as A Sandman’s Forbidden Love.
God has granted me success that I never imagined was possible., which led me to my obsession with the paranormal. Now, I know shifters aren’t real but Angels are another story. So Angels are also a part of my obsession, I will sit on the computer doing extensive research on both Sandmen and Angels trying to get my facts straight.
Then, on the side, I create Art Journals that can be cross generational from thirteen to sixty years younger. My goal with these types of books is to reach people who need that extra feel good in their lives.

I woke up in a sweat, my heart trotting in my chest. My nightmare was still vivid in my mind, terrifying images that stuck to my retinas and refused to be erased. I sat up in bed, mouth as dry and gritty as sand, and feeling a bit disoriented. Had I screamed, or had I imagined it?
“Nix, are you okay?” Joan’s voice came through the wooden door muffled but clearly worried. I must have screamed after all. “Let me in.”
I took a couple deep breaths, trying to slow down the beating of my heart and failing. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood up, noticing how wobbly my limbs were. It took me longer than it should have to get to the door and open it. Joan was standing there, gorgeous as ever in her printed pajamas and a worried frown. When my eyes met hers, a shiver of something I didn’t recognize ran over me. I couldn’t hold her gaze for long, so I stared at my feet.
“I heard you scream.” I may have not been able to see it, but I could feel it—her eyes burrowed holes in my heart.
“I had a nightmare,” I said, not daring to look up. “I’m fine. Go back to bed.”
Joan was silent for a moment, and I risked a glance. She was closer than I thought, so close I could touch her without having to stretch my arm. I wasn’t sure whether I really could feel her heat or if I was imagining it. She took another step closer, and I had a moment of insanity; I imagined taking her in my arms and kissing her. My mind reeled, confused by my recurring wish to kiss Joan; kissing was part of an unpleasant routine that I had no wish of participating in ever again. At the Fortress I stayed as invisible as I could, so Asmodeus would not call me to be part of one of his games.
“What’s wrong? You’ve been acting weird off and on since the island trip,” Joan said, taking yet another step forward. I instinctively matched her with a step backward. She flinched. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to invade your personal space. I’ll get out of your hair.”
The hurt in her voice moved something inside of me. Before she could leave, I held on to her arms and pulled her to me. “No, please don’t.” It was a plea for mercy. I had never encountered the kind of care and companionship she was willing to offer me. “I don’t want you out of my personal space.”
Natalina wrote her first romance at the age of thirteen. Since then she has published eleven romances that defy the boundaries of her genre. She enjoys writing all kinds of rebels and outcasts into her stories and she always roots for the underdog.Natalina doesn’t believe you can have too many books or too much coffee. Art and dance make her happy and she is pretty sure she could survive on lobster and bananas alone. When she is not writing or stressing over lesson plans, she shares her life with her husband and two adult sons.

SJ’s fingers wrapped around my hand.

An energy pulse surged up my arm. I yanked my hand away, but the rolling wave of warmth went right to my heart and blossomed outward. I rubbed my hand, his touch still lingering on my skin like the faintest tickle.

“You felt it. Good.” He nodded, satisfied, as though I had passed a test. “Relax, Daphne. Look at the people. What do you see?” He pushed my Long Island Iced Tea towards me.

There were drunk people and desperate men and women laughing too loud and trying too hard to have fun. “What am I supposed to see?” I sipped the drink.

SJ’s lips twitched and his brow lifted. “You tell me.”

“I see people,” I shrugged.

“You see more than that.” His brown eyes twinkled from over the rim of his extra dirty martini.

“I see drunk people.”

SJ leaned close, his shoulder touching mine. “I know you sense the feelings and thoughts of others.”

My stomach flip-flopped. “Who are you?”

SJ tapped his chest, flashed his thousand-watt grin. “I’m your guide.”

“For what?” I sucked on the straw, tried to cool the embers burning in my belly. “Am I taking a trip?”

His forefinger made a little circle in the air. “You see a person’s true form.” SJ withdrew his accusing finger, speared his martini olive with the tiny plastic fork, and popped the olive in his mouth.

This conversation took a sharp left onto Creepy Town Road.

SJ was right about one thing though. I did need this drink. Maybe two.

“What do you mean?” I lifted the glass, drank down the sweet nectar as though it could help me deal with this. With him. With his knowing.

“You’re an empath with special skills.” SJ’s eyes seared like laser beams.

“An empath?” I pondered the ice cubes floating in my Long Island Iced Tea. Was he referring to my over-sensibilities about people? Referring to the bizarre impressions I get about someone? I never told anybody about that. People would think I was crazy. Once in while I let something slip to my sisters, who laughed and said I was weird. When I was a child, Mom accused me of having a fanciful imagination.

Slurp, swallow, repeat. The alcohol took the edge off my rising panic. I stared at my drink, the condensation on the glass as cold as the back of my neck.

SJ’s voice was low, its warmth encouraging and seducing. “An empath feels others’ emotions, but you do more than that. You detect people in their true form. The time has come to perfect this ability.”

I sensed his stare. Determined. Serious. Like a hot poker to my soul. I pretended fascination with the cocktail napkin. Confusion, curiosity, anxiety, and attraction swirled like a tornado around me. I didn’t dare make eye contact.

“We know you perceive strange creatures in human form.”

My heart jumped in my throat.

Startling sapphire blue eyes pierced through me, seeming to glow in the darkness, and made only brighter by her pale skin and long obsidian hair. She had plumped lips stained dark, and I couldn’t stop my eyes from continuing their admiration. What I considered perfect breasts, were tightly wrapped in a leather crop top that allowed me to gaze at her tiny waist, and flat stomach. Her skin soon took on curves made from my dreams, widening into perfectly round hips clad in tight leather pants.

Yep. I was done for.

Blood rushed through my body in response—to all the right places, but at the worst possible moment. When my gaze returned to hers, I found her eyes taking every inch of me too, but she wasn’t just memorizing my eight pack, biceps and pecs, she stared at me dumbfounded. Like she knew me.

“What the hell are you doing here?!” she suddenly barked, but forced herself to swallow, like the sight of me in nothing but jeans and boots flustered her.

“What?” I asked, confused and hypnotized by her all at once.

“Renna, excuse me. A little help over here!” a girl shouted from the other end of the room. What looked like energy spheres burst from her hands toward the Spider Queen, that was chasing a young man with glasses as he ran for his life, screaming like a girl.

What the fuck?

“Are there any bullets left in that thing?” the beauty called Renna asked me.

“Yes, I have six shots left.”

“Okay, I’m going to wrangle Miss Itsy Bitsy over there, and you shoot her.”

“It won’t do anything. Her body swallowed the bullets. I was only able to slow her down by—”

“Shut up,” she ordered. “You are wasting time. Just shoot her in the eyes.” Turning, she ran full force toward the creature, her body blurring in front of my eyes from the insane speed she possessed.

What the fuck is happ—I was barely able to think the question, before she sent the whip flying through the air again. The iron cord wrapped around the creature’s neck, pulling her back from attacking her guy friend, and slamming her against the ground with force. But Renna didn’t stop there…
